For those interested in
making their own ornamental Rose engine lathe from the various plans on the
internet, (or the MDF Rose Engine project published in the
Spring 2007 issue of the American Woodturner. The article

This pre-made spindle will help you along! It is made
from polished 1 inch OD steel 14 inches long. One end is threaded 1 X 8 threads
per inch. With about 1 inch of thread beyond shoulder. The other end has a 2
inch long flat milled on the side to aid in holding a set screw. This version
has a milled-while-on-spindle, (for accuracy), removable shoulder to tighten
your chuck or faceplate up against. This shoulder incorporates "flats" to
enable easier chuck removal!
No need to find a local
machinist to custom make one for you, (one customer told us he was
quoted over $100 to make the same spindle)!

This pre-made spindled chuck backplate will help you along too! It is made from
12L steel and is 2 inches long. Spindle end is threaded 1 X 8 threads per inch,
(1 1/2 inches of threads). The 2 inch diameter X 1/2 inch thick backplate is
drilled and countersunk for 3 #8 woodscrews, (not included). Attach this to any
material that can accept wood screws successfully and screw on your chuck,
faceplate or a spindle mounted Jacobs drill chuck! Great for offset turning!
We also have a limited number
of these backplates with a precision 1.00 inch stud opposite the threaded
