The
system consists of a sturdy 10 inch* diameter, 1/8"
thick, anodized aluminum plate extensively laser engraved
with index lines every 5 degrees and degree marks every
15 degrees, with the appropriate ID for your spindle, with
concentric rows of indexing holes.
Included
is a heavy aluminum base with 2 very, very strong 3/4 inch
diameter "rare-earth" magnets to secure the bracket
to your cast iron/steel bed ways (base also has a threaded
1/4 x 20 tpi hole for those who wish to attach it more permanently
to your lathe or to a wooden jig), a "dog point"
spring indexing pin and appropriate threaded jam nut to
secure with your lathe's chuck or faceplate. The bracket
is easily removed when not using the index plate.
The
large indexing plates are now available separately so you
don't need to purchase two complete systems to outfit multiple
lathes with different sized spindles!
A
very small number of lathes have a spindle that has a "thread
relief" or recess beyond the threaded portion of the
spindle before it goes into the headstock casting. If you
have this type of spindle you will need to make/turn a spacer
to allow the indexing plate to center on the spindle. The
GRIZZLY G0632, DELTA 46-755 & 46-715, POWEREMATIC 3520
B are lathes with this situation that we know about so far,
but there may be others. So check your spindle first!

Actual diameter is 9.94 inches. JET JWL-1236/1442 lathe's
motor position will not allow the use of our large indexing
system unless customer either makes or purchases a spindle
extender, (these have many uses but one is extending the
space between the head stock and the back of your turning
to enable you to work on the back of your turning more easily),
